This Vibia Sabina Roman Empire bronze bust statuette is a museum-quality reproduction depicting Sabina Augusta, wife of Emperor Hadrian (r. AD 117–138). Each statuette is individually hot-cast in solid bronze using the traditional lost wax (cire perdue) casting process, resulting in natural variations in surface texture, patina, and fine detail consistent with historically accurate bronze sculpture.
Unlike resin, cold-cast, or mass-produced decorative copies, this is a true hot-cast bronze statuette, possessing the weight, depth, and sculptural presence associated with classical Roman bronzes. Subtle differences between castings are an inherent and desirable characteristic of the lost-wax process.
Each bust is produced using the traditional cire perdue (lost wax) bronze casting method, a process used continuously from antiquity through the Renaissance to the present. The technique involves creating a wax model, encasing it in a mold, and replacing the wax with molten bronze.
Because each casting is made individually:
No two statuettes are exactly alike
Minor variations in surface texture and patina are expected
Fine details retain depth and character
These qualities distinguish authentic hot-cast bronze from modern industrial reproductions.
This reproduction is informed by surviving Roman sculptural representations of Vibia Sabina preserved in museum collections and standard art-historical literature. While not a copy of a single extant sculpture, it reflects the established visual language of imperial female portraiture during the Hadrianic era.
