This is a bronze replica of a gold Niketerion (victory medallion) (4.75cm, 39.58g.) with portrait of Philip II of Macedon, 2nd century AD, probably minted during the reign of Emperor Alexander Severus. Found in the Tarsus Treasury. These prizes of victory in ancient times were presented in the presence of the emperor to the winners of the Olympic and Pythian Games.
