Æ Roman Empire Sestertius (33.7mm, 27.13g.) Macrinus, Rome mint, struck 217 A.D. References: RIC 141, Cohen 61, BMC 121. This obverse die originally showed Macrinus with a short beard (BMCRE pl. 81, 10). The beard on the die was later lengthened, as Macrinus let his beard grow after becoming emperor.
