L. Ceionius Commodus, later know as Lucius Aurelius Verus, was born in A.D. 130, the son of Aelius Caesar. He was adopted by Antoninus Pius in A.D. 138, but unlike Marcus Aurelius, who was adopted at the same time, he was not raised Caesar. On the accession of Marcus Aurelius in A.D. 161, Lucius Verus was made co-emperor.
